Super soft olive green narrow whale corduroy velveteen trapeze coat, circa 1980s vintage by obscure and über- talented designer, Lester Hayatt. 100% cotton, rounded collar, full zip front with brass metal zipper, covered placket with button at hem. Raglan sleeves with slightly tapered shape and single button cuffs- dramatic padded piping detail runs down the top of the arms- quite avant garde! Large slash pockets at front upper hips. Black logo ""Hayatt"" patch on the left pocket, as shown. Unlined. Tagged size M, this can fit a range of sizes and shapes given the ease of cut.
Condition is very good to excellent- this appears very seldom worn with no issues to report. Great color- and Hayatt was known for his use of camouflage in chic cuts so an OD (olive drab) color choice isn't too surprising. Comfortable, chic, and easy to wear- with the casual elegance of a barn jacket or similar. A very cool and unusual piece!
Hayatt was a native of Panama who moved to NYC at the age of eighteen and enrolled at Parsons, where he won the Butterick Vogue Young Designer Award during his first year. He interned with Giorgio di Sant' Angelo, and designed for Lady Madonna (a maternity label) for years prior to opening his namesake boutique in NYC.
